How to plan outdoor media for a hotel or resort
A hotel can be selling weekday rooms, a weekend break, a wedding venue or a conference package at the same time. One outdoor plan cannot give all four equal weight. Choose the stay or event you need to fill, then plan around the journey that leads to that booking.
Choose the guest journey
Start with the reason for travel. A business hotel may need visibility between an airport, railway station and office district. A resort near Delhi NCR may need weekend travellers leaving residential areas. A banquet venue needs families and event planners within a realistic drive. Map that journey before choosing famous roads.
Separate people who can book from people who are merely passing. Airport traffic can look attractive, but it may include residents returning home, staff and connecting travellers. Ask what the route contributes to the brief and use available audience evidence as a planning input, not proof of a booking.
Give the sites different jobs
- Discovery sites introduce the property and one relevant reason to consider it.
- Route sites repeat the name on a journey the intended guest actually makes.
- Arrival sites confirm the turn, entrance or landmark when wayfinding is useful.
A property image should show the experience being sold. Do not use a pool for a conference offer or a room photograph for a banquet message. Keep the hotel name, place and booking action readable from the expected viewing distance.
Connect outdoor to a bookable page
Send people to a short search term, memorable web address or nearby location cue. The landing page should match the exact property and offer shown outside, with current dates and terms. A QR code belongs only where people have safe dwell time, such as a mall or station concourse.
Measure the journey, not only room nights
Record normal branded searches, direct visits, calls and enquiries from the target area before launch. Ask booking teams to note how guests heard about the property. Room demand also changes with holidays, events, rates and availability, so treat any lift as evidence to investigate rather than automatic proof.
Build the corridor with the route planning guide, decide timing with the weekday and weekend framework, and review the message with the seven second creative test.
