How to plan outdoor media for a restaurant
Restaurant advertising works best when it reaches people before they choose where to eat, not after they have passed the turn. The plan should connect a real catchment, a relevant meal period and one reason to visit.
Define the occasion you want to win
A weekday lunch, family dinner, late evening order and weekend celebration are different briefs. Write down the occasion, the likely customer and the area they start from. An office lunch campaign may follow routes around a business district. A family restaurant may focus on residential exits, market approaches and weekend leisure routes.
Delivery catchments need a separate map. Do not buy broad city visibility for a message that can only be fulfilled within a small service area. Confirm the current delivery boundary and opening hours before artwork approval.
Place the message before the decision
- Use approach roads where the audience can still choose the restaurant.
- Check the traffic direction and whether the board appears before the useful turn.
- Use digital dayparts only when the booked plays cover the intended meal period.
- Use arrival media for a clear landmark or entrance cue, not a second menu.
Visit the site at the hour you plan to influence. A road that is useful at lunch may behave differently during the evening rush. Ask for current approach photographs and confirm lighting for dinner messages.
Keep the offer easy to honour
Feature one dish, experience or truthful offer. Make dates and conditions readable where an offer is time limited. Avoid a small QR code on fast roads. A short search term, phone number or familiar landmark is usually easier to remember. The menu, map listing and landing page should show the same hours, location and offer.
Measure the right meal period
Record normal covers, direct searches, calls, reservations or delivery orders for the chosen days and times. Compare like with like during the campaign and note festivals, weather, discounts and local events. Ask staff one simple question about discovery, but do not force a customer to remember a specific board.
Choose the schedule with the weekday and weekend guide, check digital delivery with the DOOH loop guide, and simplify the artwork with the hoarding copy checklist.
