Should your outdoor campaign target weekdays or weekends?

Outdoor advertising displays above a busy city road

A busy road on Monday morning and a busy mall entrance on Sunday afternoon can both look attractive. The useful question is when your customer is travelling, what they are doing and how soon they can act on your message.

Choose the decision moment first

A service aimed at office commuters may benefit from repeated weekday trips. A weekend event needs people who are planning an outing or already heading to it. A local shop may need both, but for different jobs: weekdays can build recognition and weekends can remind people to visit. Write one sentence describing the trip you want to influence before looking at inventory.

Compare routes, not calendar labels

Check the actual approach to each site. A board on an office corridor may face traffic going into the business district while your store sits behind drivers travelling the other way. A board near a market may face shoppers only after they have passed the turn. Visit at the intended hour or ask for current approach photographs.

Ask the Media Owner for traffic or audience evidence split by day and time if it exists. Treat a single daily average as a broad planning input, not proof of weekend reach. OOH audience measures distinguish passing traffic from people likely to notice a message, and neither tells you who bought afterward.

Use one of three simple schedules

  • Weekday heavy: focus on commute corridors when repeated work trips matter.
  • Weekend heavy: focus on shopping, leisure or event approaches close to the action.
  • Continuous: keep a clear printed site live through both, then use a digital screen for time specific reminders where suitable.

Digital screens can offer booked dayparts, but confirm operating hours, plays and proof of play. Printed hoardings remain visible throughout their booked period, subject to lighting and site conditions. Compare the full cost of each schedule rather than assuming a short digital burst is cheaper.

Choose the moment when the audience can act, then buy the direction and time that lead to that moment.

Check the result against the right days

Before launch, note normal weekday and weekend enquiries, visits or sales for the target area. Review the matching days during the campaign and allow for holidays, offers and other marketing. A change is a useful signal, not proof that one hoarding caused it.

Build the corridor with route search for commuter campaigns, compare metro panels and roadside hoardings, and check digital screen delivery.
