How to pick a billboard location that actually delivers
You can have great artwork and a healthy budget, but if the site is wrong the campaign underperforms. Location is the single biggest lever in outdoor advertising, so it pays to judge each option with care.
Start with your audience, not the map
Before you look at any site, write down who you want to reach and where they spend their day. A premium jewellery brand wants routes near affluent neighbourhoods and shopping districts. A coaching institute wants roads around colleges and residential belts. Let the audience decide the area, then find sites inside it.
Read the traffic honestly
High traffic is good, but the type of traffic matters more than the raw count. Slow moving traffic at a signal gives people time to read your message, which often beats a faster road with a bigger number. Check whether vehicles queue near the site and whether pedestrians pass on foot.
Check the angle and the clutter
- Can drivers see the board comfortably, or is it side on and easy to miss?
- Is it blocked by trees, a flyover, or another hoarding?
- How many other ads compete for attention at the same spot?
A clean sightline with few competing displays is worth more than a crowded premium junction where your message fights for every glance.
Lit or unlit
If your audience travels in the evening, an illuminated site earns its higher rate by staying visible after dark. For a daytime commuter route, an unlit board may be perfectly fine and cheaper.
Think in routes, not single sites
One board makes an impression. A short sequence along a route people travel every day builds memory through repetition. If your budget allows, a handful of well placed sites on the same corridor usually outperforms scattered sites across the city.
Let the shortlist do the first pass
To save you legwork, every site on our platform carries an AI assessment of the audience it draws and the campaign objectives it suits best, from brand awareness to store footfall to reaching commuters. Filter by your objective first to narrow the field, then apply the human checks above on the few sites that remain. The tool builds the shortlist, your judgement picks the winner.
Judge every site on audience fit, sightline, traffic quality and lighting. When those line up, the location does most of the selling for you.
