How to choose an outdoor media type for the job

How to choose an outdoor media type for the job

When you are choosing media for your campaign, the right format fits how your audience is moving when you need to reach them. Start with the audience moment, then choose the canvas. Starting with the biggest board usually wastes your budget.

If you need citywide recognition

Use roadside billboards across a few high value corridors. They suit a stable brand message and work best when people see the same idea on more than one trip. Add a unipole only where one landmark can give the plan a strong hero presence.

If you need commuters at a specific moment

Use metro panels, train branding or bus shelters. These formats place a message during waiting time or on a habitual route. They are useful for apps, education, retail and services that need a nearby, repeated audience. Choose the route after studying where the buyer begins and ends the trip.

If timing or motion is the message

Use an LED screen. It can carry short motion, several versions by time of day, and a date sensitive message. It is less useful when the campaign needs one long, uninterrupted static statement. Check the loop length, spot frequency and playback proof before booking.

If the audience is in a purchase mindset

Mall and lift branding can work better than a broad road. They reach people with dwell time near shops, offices or homes. The trade is narrower reach, so use them to influence a defined audience rather than to announce a national brand idea.

Choose the audience moment first: driving, waiting, commuting, shopping or arriving home. The media type follows from that answer.

Read the individual format guides from the Baba Media journal, or start with roadside billboards.
