How long should a hoarding campaign run?
A hoarding needs enough time to become familiar, but a longer booking is not automatically a better one. The right duration depends on when people can act, how regularly they pass the site and whether the message has an expiry date.
Start with the decision window
Work backwards from the customer decision. An event campaign must build attention before a fixed date. An admission campaign follows enquiry and application windows. A local service or retail brand may need steady memory through several purchase cycles. The calendar should follow the decision, not the billing unit on a rate card.
Match duration to travel frequency
Outdoor builds memory through repeated journeys. A daily office commuter can meet the same site many times during one month. A weekend destination or an occasional airport route needs a different plan. Ask how often the intended audience actually travels past the site, not only how many people pass on an average day.
OOH planning commonly reports frequency over a four week period. That makes four weeks a useful review window, not a promise that every campaign must stop or succeed at that point. Shorter activity can work for a deadline. Longer activity can work for sustained awareness.
Plan phases when the message changes
- Announcement: tell people what is coming and where.
- Action: show the opening date, booking window or main offer.
- Reminder: keep the brand and destination visible after launch.
A printed hoarding can use separate artwork for each phase if production costs are planned. A digital screen can switch the message by date or time, but its loop and confirmed play schedule still matter.
Set review points before launch
Choose what you will inspect after the first complete planning window. Check proof of display, site condition, branded search, enquiries, store visits or another signal tied to the brief. Continue a site when the audience and delivery still make sense. Refresh the message when the site is right but the communication has become stale. Replace the site when the route or sightline is wrong.
For calendar planning, read planning festival and seasonal campaigns. For the renewal decision, use the renew, drop or replace framework. Measure the result with an outdoor campaign measurement plan.
