Choosing the right cities for your outdoor campaign
India is not one market, it is many. The right city mix for your campaign depends on where your customers are, what you sell, and how far your budget stretches. Here is how to think it through.
Metros
The big metros bring huge audiences and premium routes, along with premium rates. They suit national brands, launches that need scale, and categories where the metro consumer is the main buyer. The trade off is cost and clutter, since these routes are crowded with other advertisers competing for the same glance.
Tier 2 cities
Cities like Jaipur, Indore, Nagpur, Coimbatore and Lucknow have become the sweet spot for many advertisers. Audiences are large and growing, rates are far friendlier than the metros, and there is less clutter, so a single good site stands out more. For brands expanding beyond the metros, this is often where the money works hardest.
Tier 3 cities and towns
Smaller cities offer very low rates and strong local trust. A well placed hoarding in a town can dominate the main road in a way that is impossible in a metro. These markets suit regional brands, local businesses, and national brands going deep into a state.
A simple way to decide
- List the cities where your sales or ambitions are strongest.
- Match each to a goal, such as scale in a metro or dominance in a Tier 2 city.
- Give each chosen city enough sites to be noticed, then stop.
Let the goal lead
A launch that needs noise leans toward metros. A brand deepening its base leans toward Tier 2 and Tier 3. Decide the goal first, then let it choose the cities, and the budget will go further than spreading it thin across the map.
